Or really anybody that wants to share their opinion. I’m about to buy new shoes for my ‘71 Camaro and need some opinions on sizing.
Right now the tires on it (which were put on by a previous owner) are 215/65-15s on the front and 255/60-15s on the rear. I’m thinking of going to 225/60-15 on the front and 235/60-15 on the back. I would go 235 all around but on my previous Camaro that size would rub when the front suspension compressed. I’m thinking of downsizing the back mostly for availability reasons, but I’m also afraid of the wide size kicking up more debris on to the quarter panels. Thoughts?
Here is a bad potato shot of it how it sits now. I will be bringing the front end down an inch or two at some point in the future.

Your idea sounds pretty good, not a huge difference though so it may be worth it just going 225 all around so you can rotate tires. Or go all out and get some 17x9 rims from Year One.

Sadly, there is no budget for wheels. The point about being able to rotate them is a good one. I like having the wider tires in back but like you say there really isn’t that much difference between 225 and 235.

I would go with 215/70 front and 275/60 rear. Your front rims are almost a bit too wide for 215/70s though. I know the look you’re going for.
This pic is almost 15 years old now and the car is long gone but..

With the wheels I have I think the 255s on the rears are as wide as I can go. I think anything wider would rub on the lip of the wheel well when I hit a bump. The 215/70 idea is interesting since that was the stock size but I would have to see how they would fit the wheels and compare overall diameter with the rears.

Interesting. I had rubbing on the Bu in back and had to trim a bit. Part of that was the aftermarket quarters though. Overall they both should be about 28" tall with 7" wheels up front and 8"-9" wheels out back.
The backspacing is what hurts. 4.5" bs in the rear on a 15x8 wheel is about maxed for an X or F body. (If memory serves)

I’m sure it’s the backspacing of the wheels i have that is limiting things. On the front I think their width really needs a wider tire.

What are the widths? I’m guessing 15x8 in front and 15x10 back.

I’m surprised 235s rub for you. Most of the t/a guys say you can run up to 245s without problem. At least, I hope so. Because that is what I am going to order D: let me know. I think our suspensions are different though.

Love the Camaro! I’d recommend the 225/235 setup. That much rear tire is kinda silly and it makes the car track weird over bumps and cracks in the road. Got any more pics of the car? It’s so cool!

Close! For a 3rd gen X body a 5.5BS 15x8 wheel allows you to fit a 275/60 tire, for the most part. If your rear axle is far off center then you might have some issues.
Token, what backspacing are your wheels?

The only other pic I have is an older one before I installed the inner fenders and interior and put on a real air cleaner.
I also have a short video of it to let everyone hear what dual exhaust with no crossover and leaky header gaskets sound like.

That was just my experience with a previous car. It might have just been something weird with that car’s suspension, or the backspacing of those wheels, as I’ve read that 235s are a pretty popular size for those cars. In my head I’m still thinking that I might go 235 all around they would fill the wheel wells nicely and that size is so popular that tire places actually stock it.

What are you going for? I'm pretty much stuck with Cooper cobras .

I’m not sure as they were on the car when I bought it. I’m going to see if I can get a good idea when I take them off to clean up before I take them to the tire place. Right now if there any markings on them they’re covered up by crud. Once they’re off I could also use a tape measure and an eyeball to at least get an idea.
